Significance of Mehndi Designs in India
Mehndi actually prepared from the leaves of plant called henna which is known also as cypress flower. Word ‘Henna' comes from the Arabic name for Lawsonia Inermis pronounced as Hinna. Mehndi is said to be been used since the ancient times nearly 5000 years ago. Some point out that mehndi was brought by the Mughals, however some say that mehndi originated in India.
The styles of mehndi designs differ as per the region they are used. Mehndi is used in a variety of occasions, most important in marriage. No wedding is known to be complete without a stunning Mehndi design. Most popular mehndi types are Indian, Pakistani, Arabic and African.
An Arabic mehndi design is generally known for fewer details, the color however is very dark. Most of the designs include vines as well as leaves, beautiful flowers, etc.
Pakistani mehndi design is known to be is the most detailed; the application of this kind of Mehndi takes a lot of time.

Embellishing the skin using henna or mehndi is gaining wide popularity also out in the West since the 1990s. Mehndi designs are becoming more and more popular as people realize the beauty of the graceful patterns.

Practicing mehndi designs?
Okay as you guys know eid is in just a few days, i will be having a mehndi night party and i invited some of my friends and cousins to enjoy, and so that i can put mehndi(henna) on them but i am not 100% perfect in this but my sisters love the way i put it on, now can you guys tell me what i can practise putting mehndi(henna) on. I've tried paper but its useless.
**I cant put in on anyones hands since eid is coming and no one wants to put it on YET, since the color will fade off by eid.
So plzzzz i need some help before i blow up their hands!! lol
All those parts of yourself that you can reach but are usually covered by clothes are prime henna practice real estate. My calves and thighs are usually covered in test designs that no one sees. Any person foolish enough to sit still in my house while I have henna out will get a design, so sneak up on family members and henna their feet or backs. Your upper arms, belly, and chest are possibilities too. If you don't want to stain yourself or family but don't want to practice on paper, try animal hides, wood, silk, or other organics that henna will actually stain. So you get practice, and you've made a piece of permanent henna art. Practice with cake icing if you don't want to waste your henna.
