I have a jensen power 400 amp and the red led light goes on, why is that?
It works fine, but once the volume is raised above 17, the amp goes red and no longer hits as it is supposed to.
you probably are under powering the speaker. the speaker is "asking" for more than the watts you are giving it. check the ratings on the sub and amp for example.
if your sub is rated at 4 ohms and your amp is rated 400watts @ 2 ohms, you are actually only giving it 200watts.
most people try not to blow the speaker by giving it less power, like a 500watt sub and a 400watt amp. this actually does more harm because amps usually only push 85-90% of what they are rated at. a better solution would be to give that 4 ohm sub something that is rated 600watts @ 4 ohms. then tune it. you can crank it until it starts to distort then turn down the gain so you are probably pushing about 560watts to the speaker. this may sound crazy but its the right way. also check for ventilation like the others said.
my guess is that you have a 500 watt sub @ 4 ohms and a jensen amp that is 400watts at 2 ohms.
if you do, it means you are giving a 500watt sub 200watts.
when you are choosing components, match the ohms when you compare.
